About Anna Sewell

Anna Sewell was born into a Quaker family in Norfolk. An injury to her ankles as a girl left her unable to walk without difficulty, and she spent much of her life at home with her parents, helping her mother with charity work and editing her books. She wrote one novel, Black Beauty, in her last years and it was published in 1877. Told by a horse, it argued for kind treatment of animals. She died a few months after it came out.
