Clement Clarke Moore

Clement Clarke Moore was a New York scholar who taught Oriental and Greek literature at the General Theological Seminary, on land his family donated in Chelsea. A Visit from St. Nicholas, better known as Twas the Night Before Christmas, was first printed anonymously in 1823, and Moore claimed it as his own in 1844. The poem named Santa Claus's reindeer and shaped how Americans picture Christmas Eve.
