Hermann Hesse

Hermann Hesse was a German-Swiss poet and novelist who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946. His interest in Eastern religious and philosophical traditions, together with his experience of Jungian analysis, shaped his work. His best known novels are Demian, Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, Narcissus and Goldmund, and The Glass Bead Game, each about one person's search for self-knowledge. Siddhartha, published in 1922, follows a young man in ancient India who leaves home to look for peace and finds it in unexpected ways.
