Patrick Henry

Patrick Henry was an American lawyer, planter and orator from Virginia. He first became well known in 1763 through the Parson's Cause, a lawsuit he won. In March 1775, speaking to the Second Virginia Convention, he urged that the colony arm itself, closing with the words give me liberty or give me death. He served as the first governor of Virginia after independence, and later argued for a Bill of Rights.
