About Robert Hoe

Robert Hoe III was an American businessman who made printing presses. Born in New York City, he succeeded Richard March Hoe as head of R. Hoe and Company, the firm whose presses printed many of the country's newspapers. He was also a devoted book collector, the first president of the Grolier Club, a New York society for the book arts, and one of the founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A Short History of the Printing Press is his account of the craft that his family business was built on.
