Who was Homer?
Homer is the ancient Greek poet credited with the Iliad and the Odyssey, the two oldest and most influential stories in Western literature.
Who was Homer?
Almost nothing is known about Homer for certain. The ancient Greeks believed he was a blind poet from Ionia, and scholars think the poems took shape around the 8th century BC. They began as oral poetry, sung and passed down for generations before they were written down.
The Odyssey
The Odyssey follows Odysseus on his ten-year journey home from the Trojan War: the Cyclops, the witch Circe, the Sirens, a trip to the land of the dead, and his wife Penelope holding off a houseful of suitors. It was made to be performed aloud, which makes it a natural audiobook. Our recording comes in twelve parts, two books at a time.
Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who travelled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy.
